Site Guidelines
1. Purpose of These Guidelines
CourseMap is a student-generated content platform designed to help UNSW Global Diploma students make informed decisions about course selection. These guidelines define what content is acceptable on the platform and protect both users and the individuals whose teaching is discussed.
2. Who May Submit Reviews
Reviews may only be submitted by individuals who are currently enrolled or have previously been enrolled in the relevant course at UNSW Global. By submitting, you warrant that you have direct personal experience with the course and teacher you are reviewing.
3. Acceptable Content
You may submit content that:
- Describes your personal academic experience with a specific course or teacher
- Discusses teaching style, course structure, workload, and communication responsiveness
- Provides factual observations about classroom conduct directly related to the teaching role
- Uses constructive language that would assist future students in making informed choices
- Reflects your honest opinion clearly expressed as such
4. Prohibited Content
You must NOT submit content that:
(a) Is defamatory.Content that makes false statements of fact capable of harming a person's reputation. Under the Defamation Act 2005 (NSW), a statement is defamatory if it would cause ordinary members of the community to think less of the person. Truth is a complete defence; unverified claims are not.
(b) Contains personal attacks or harassment. Content that insults, demeans, threatens, or targets an individual based on personal characteristics unrelated to their teaching role, including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
(c) Discloses private information.Any information about a teacher's personal life, health, family, financial situation, or activities outside their professional teaching role. Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), individuals retain rights over their personal information even in professional contexts.
(d) Is false or misleading. Fabricated experiences, invented incidents, or exaggerated claims presented as factual. Misleading content may expose you to liability under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2, Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)).
(e) Is submitted by an ineligible person. Reviews submitted by individuals who have not personally experienced the course, including content submitted on behalf of another person or as part of a coordinated effort to manipulate ratings.
(f) Contains spam or commercial content. Advertising, promotional material, links to third-party websites, or content unrelated to the academic experience being reviewed.
5. Content Moderation
CourseMap employs a two-stage content moderation process:
Stage 1 — Automated pre-screening: All text submissions are automatically screened for prohibited content prior to submission. Submissions flagged by the automated system will be rejected at the point of entry with an explanation.
Stage 2 — Human review: All text reviews enter a human review queue and will not be publicly displayed until approved by a platform administrator. Structured data (scores and tags) may appear immediately.
CourseMap reserves the right to remove any content at its sole discretion, without notice, where it reasonably believes the content violates these guidelines or any applicable law.
6. Reporting and Appeals
Users may report content they believe violates these guidelines using the Report function on each review. Reports are reviewed within 48 hours.
Teachers whose information appears on this platform may contact CourseMap via the Contact Us form to request review of any content they believe to be inaccurate or in violation of these guidelines. CourseMap will respond within 72 hours.
